Youth arrested for making objectionable comments against CM Suvendu during Facebook Live

Police in North 24 Parganas' Gobardanga arrested a youth, identified as Pabitra Sarkar, for allegedly making derogatory and objectionable remarks against Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during a Facebook Live broadcast. The police action followed a written complaint and video link submitted by Gobardanga Mandal BJP Vice President Shubham Mukhopadhyay. Political discussions intensified after Mukhopadhyay clarified that while Sarkar was not an office-bearer, he had been observed as a party supporter who previously posted controversial videos targeting other political leaders.

In a separate development, prominent Bengali actor Sreelekha Mitra landed in legal trouble after participating in a student protest rally in Kolkata. BJP leaders, including spokesperson Keya Ghosh, filed complaints at the Anandapur Police Station and the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station, alleging that Mitra publicly displayed an objectionable caricature poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The complainants accused the actor of intentional public defamation and promoting public discord during the demonstration.

Addressing the allegations, Sreelekha Mitra denied any deliberate intent to disrespect Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The actor explained that she had joined the student march spontaneously and was handed the placard amid a chaotic situation involving police action. She clarified that because she was wearing sunglasses and had left her reading glasses behind, she could not verify the details of the image printed on the poster before being photographed.
